Charlene's Third Observation
On February 4, 2010, from 12:41 to 1:10, I situated myself across from the Reference Desk on the second floor of the South Regional Library in Pembroke Pines. There were individuals working on computers near the Reference Desk and at tables, behind the Reference Desk and near the Reference section, as well as in the Periodical Section, where the cabinets are located that hold the microfilm, storing the old newspapers. They had two Research Librarians working at the Reference Desk, which is located in the center of the room.
There is a glassed-in quiet room set off from the main room, where users can study free of distractions. The Reference sections is situated on the right side of the room and the general reading section is on the left. The Reference section and the Periodical section are both located on the right side of the room. The Computer lab is located on the left side of the room, as are the elevators. The restrooms are located on the right side of the room, down the corridor and on the right side. The water fountains are nearby. On the right side of the room, just to the right of the Periodical room, there are photocopying machines and a machine where users can put money on their library card for printing and copying. They also have a photocopying machine near the Law books for faculty to use. They have chairs situated around the central staircase, as well as live, potted plants for the patrons to enjoy. The printers for the computers are located in the middle of the room, just off to the right of the Reference Desk.
There was a clock on the wall on the left side of the room just above a glass case, showcasing books, articles, T-shirts, and brochures about going green. There were bookshelves along a back wall, with a bulletin board above it, pertaining to literacy; behind it is a room that can be reserved for use by anyone who wishes to do so.
There was a patron of the library, talking to one of the Reference Librarians. She was wearing sandals, jeans, a blue top, and a hoodie that was a dark, moss green. She had dark hair that came
just below her shoulders.
